A two-story villa
at the foot of
The Castle

Villa Eleni sits in the village of Mazarakata, five minutes from Argostoli, in full view of an ancient hilltop castle that has watched over this part of Kefaloniá for centuries. The gated property is wrapped on three sides by olive trees and forest — quiet, private, and unmistakably Greek.

The ground floor opens onto a terrace with a pool, barbecue, and patio furniture — the natural centre of gravity for any stay. Inside, the living area and kitchen flow easily between three bedrooms and a bath, with a pool-side half-bath just outside. Every room has its own balcony or terrace access, so there is always somewhere to step out.

The top floor is a self-contained space in its own right: a spacious living area, full kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The balcony up here catches the early morning light in a way that makes breakfast feel like a small event.

Whether you come for the beaches, the Robola wine, or simply to sit under an olive tree and do nothing in particular — Mazarakta is the kind of place that slows you down in the best way.

🏛
Central Location

A short five kilometer drive to Argostoli's waterfront, markets, and tavernas.

Argostoli,
the heart of Kefaloniá

Mazarakáta sits just five kilometres from Argostoli in the quiet hills above the capital — close enough to everything, far enough from the noise. It is the kind of place where the loudest sound at night is the wind moving through the olive trees.

That said, nothing is far. Argostoli's fish market, central plateia, and kilometre-long waterfront esplanade are a short drive down the hill — a real Greek town with working restaurants, local markets, and harbour turtles at dusk. The island's beaches are equally within reach. A rental car is recommended, and with one, the whole of Kefaloniá opens up from your doorstep.

Kefaloniá at
your doorstep

🌊
~35 min by car

Routinely ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Greece. White pebbles, dramatic cliffs, and water of an almost unreal turquoise. Best in the morning before the tour buses arrive.

🏛
~35 min by car

An otherworldly collapsed sea cave where sunlight pierces a hole in the roof to illuminate the blue-green underground lake. Boat tours run through the chambers year-round.

~45 min by car

A lush, green-fringed beach on the eastern shore — famously used as a filming location for Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Clearer than clear water and a quieter crowd than Myrtos.

🍷
~20 min by car

The Cooperative Winery of Kefaloniá produces Robola, the island's distinctive white wine, from vineyards in the mountain valley of Omala. Free tastings and a short film about the grape.

🏔
~30 min by car

The highest peak in the Ionians, covered in ancient fir forest (Abies cephalonica, named for the island). Drive to the upper car park, then walk through the trees to the summit ridge.

🐢
Argostoli Harbour Turtles
~10 min by car

Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) congregate in the shallow harbour waters right in Argostoli — one of the most accessible turtle-watching spots in Europe. Best at dusk near the fish market.

🌅
Assos Village
~40 min by car

A tiny, pastel-coloured village wrapped around its own peninsula, dominated by a Venetian castle above. Walk down to the pebble cove for a swim, then lunch at one of the three tavernas.

Fiskardo
~1 hr by car

The only village to survive the 1953 earthquake intact, Fiskardo retains its Venetian architecture and is Kefaloniá's most picturesque harbour. Worth the drive for an evening dinner.
